Biography

Attorney Petty has dedicated his legal career to helping people injured by the carelessness of others. Since becoming an attorney in 2003, he prides himself on being there for his clients at every step in prosecuting a personal injury claim, from providing counsel and solace following a traumatic accident, to zealously presenting their case to a jury. Respected by his peers, Attorney Petty is honored to have been named to numerous prestigious awards and  designations throughout his years of practice.  Attorney Petty has been awarded the Wisconsin Super Lawyers designation in various capacities every year since 2009.  Specifically, he was named on the Wisconsin Super Lawyers Rising Stars list each year from 2009 to 2016 and was named a Wisconsin Super Lawyer in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and again in 2023.

Attorney Petty has approximately 20 years of civil litigation and trial experience.  His first ten years of practice were spent working side by side a prominent Milwaukee trial attorney.  Attorney Petty honed his skills as an advocate for those unjustly wronged, successfully handling a wide breadth of civil cases, from probate and business disputes to professional liability and all types of negligence claims with a strong emphasis on serious personal injury matters.  During this time Attorney Petty gained significant experience trying cases to the court and jury and even beyond when necessary to protect the rights of his clients, successfully handling cases on appeal.

Attorney Petty proudly joined Gruber Law Offices in 2013, where he has thrived working in a diverse firm, reflective of the community in which he lives and practices.  One hundred percent of his practice is dedicated to those wrongfully injured.  While there is no case too big or too small for Attorney Petty to handle, he has successfully prosecuted many cases involving catastrophic injury and wrongful death.  Attorney Petty believes he provides to his clients a unique balance of empathy and intellect, common sense wisdom and legal acumen, years of experience but the ability to view cases with a modern, creative perspective.  His clients develop a lifelong trust in him and Gruber Law Offices, time and again referring friends and family to their trusted counselor at law.

Attorney Petty received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from UW- Madison in 1999 and his law degree from Marquette University in 2003. While at Marquette, he was a member of the Public Interest Law, International Law, and Environmental Law Societies. Attorney Petty was also awarded the opportunity to take part in the Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition.

Community involvement is extremely important to Attorney Petty. He has volunteered as an attorney drafting wills for first responders, monitoring elections to protect the right to vote, and representing tenants in disputes with their landlords. Additionally, Attorney Petty served as President of the Board of Directors for his sons’ public school located in central Milwaukee.

There is nothing more important to Attorney Petty than his family, in which he includes those at Gruber Law Offices and his clients. Attorney Petty was born in Portland, Oregon and lived in California until he was ten. He subsequently moved to the Milwaukee area, his mother’s hometown. Attorney Petty has lived in the city of Milwaukee for over twenty years, where he raises his boys with his wife, the three of whom provide him a light that never goes out.
