What is Essure Permanent Birth Control?

Essure is permanent birth control that was developed as a non-surgery alternative to tubal ligation and, as such, did not require an incision to insert. Two permanent flexible coils are inserted through the vagina and cervix and placed in each fallopian tube by a physician. The coils prevent eggs from being fertilized and reaching the uterus. Since first gaining regulatory approval by the FDA, over 750,000 people have used the Essure system.
